Miss Kris and the 2009/10 5th Graders at Gullett Elementary
Create Your State was designed and implemented by the fabulous 2009/2010 5th Graders at Gullett Elementary in Austin, TX with help from their art teacher, Miss Kris.
The students worked extremely hard to make Create Your State a success. In the initial stages, there was a lot of brainstorming, collaborating, and compromising when deciding on how to create our Texas-shaped mural. Each student made a clay snake for the border of Texas and many brought in materials and stayed after school to bring the mural to life. The next year, the students viewed, talked about and voted on the submissions from the participating schools.
I (Miss Kris) helped by sending e-mails, collecting the submissions and designing the final book. I taught at Gullett Elementary in Austin, TX from 2008-2010. It was the best job ever! I am currently in Germany with my husband, who is here for work, but I can't wait to get back into teaching!
